Loop Course
Rocky Peak Loop
This run starts at the Rocky Peak Park Trail Head, just off the 118 Frwy at Rocky Peak Road. The run quickly climbs to Rocky Peak for a nice 360 degree view. We will then descend on the nice single-track Cumash Trail through the Cumash Canyon. Our final leg will be on the Hummingbird Trail. In the summer, this course will be hot--Bring plenty of water. Will Rogers Loop From Temescal Park
This is a loop course that starts and ends at Temescal Park (the intersection of Temescal Road and Sunset Blvd.) After walking the service road through Temescal Park, the run starts in a clockwise direction and traverses the Temescal Park Waterfall. From the Waterfall, the run continues up the Temescal West Ridge to the Temescal Ridge Fire Road and then to Will Rogers State Park via the spectacular Will Rogers Backbone Trial. The final leg continues up scenic Rivas Canyon and then back to Temescal Park.
Will Rogers Loop From Rivas Canyon Road
This is a loop course that starts and ends at the intersection of Sunset and Rivas Canyon Road. The run takes the beautiful Rivas Canyon Trail, with several great view points, to Temescal Park and the Temescal Park Waterfall. From the Waterfall, the run continues up the Temescal West Ridge to the Temescal Ridge Fire Road and then back through the Polo Field at Will Rogers State Park via the spectacular Will Rogers Backbone Trial and finally back to the intersection of Rivas Canyon Road and Sunset. From the high school, proceed up Temescal Ave. and turn right on Sunset.
Wildwood Trail
This course follows the Wildwood Trail through a canyon with mature trees offering shade. On a warm day, the brave can dip in the lagoon by Paradise Falls.
Guadalasca Trail
This run begins at Ray Miller Trailhead, and in a clockwise direction we take the shortcut to La Jolla Valley, and turn left at the 4-way intersection on to N.Overlook Fireroad. The run proceeds straight on N.Overlook Fireroad, then right on the Guadalasca Trail , which zig-zags down to Wood Canyon and finally to Sycamore Canyon Fire Road. We then go right on Wood Canyon Vista Trail then go left on Overlook Fire Road, and return via Ray Miller Trail. Sycamore Canyon/Serrano Valley Tr./Blue Canyon Trail
This run starts and ends in Sycamore Canyon, climbs up the Serrano Canyon Trail to Serrano Valley at an elevation of 1303 ft. with it's majestic views of beautiful Serrano Valley with rolling grassland meadows that are a lush green in winter and a golden brown in summer. From Serrano Valley we take a right onto Old Boney Trail, then continue left on Old Boney Trail, then left on Blue Canyon Trail, until it intersects Sycamore Canyon Fire Road. Then we turn left on the fire road and take it home about 4 miles to the finish.
Chantry Flats/Mt. Zion Loop
One of the best runs in the San Gabriels. Passes through chaparral-coated slopes with expansive canyon views, lush conifer forest and streamside woodland, sampling the grandeur of the Big Santa Anita watershed. Basically, an 1800 ft. elevation gain to Mt. Zion in the first 4 miles, and a 6 mile gradual endorphin-pumping-descent paralleling the river back to Chantry Flats.
Canyonback Road
The trailhead is at the top of North Kenter Avenue which junctions with Sunset Boulevard about 1¼ miles west of the 405 Frwy. From Sunset Blvd. to the trailhead at the top of North Kenter Avenue is about 2 miles and you know you're there because there is a large road barrier swing gate. Parking is anywhere on the street prior to the gate.
Ernie's Run (Westridge / Sullivan Canyon Loop)
This run starts at the end of Westridge Road and follows the fire road to Mulholland and the park at a former Nike Radar Station with a rest room and drinking fountain. We then go west on Mulholland to Sullivan Ridge and then down into shady Sullivan Canyon finishing with a climb up a steep and rugged trail to Westridge and the finish.
Circle X Ranch / Sandstone Peak
This extremely scenic run begins and ends at the Circle X Ranch parking lot on Yerba Buena Road. It heads out the Canyon View Trail, crosses Yerba Buena Road to the Sandstone Peak Trailhead, and continues on to the Mishe Mokwa Trail. The route goes past Split Rock and Tri Peaks before turning onto the Backbone Trail, passing close by Sandstone Peak (the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains), and returns to Circle X Ranch via the Canyon View Trail. This course offers sweeping valley to ocean vistas, as well as views of spectacular rock formations.
