California State Parks face imminent closure by Governor Schwarzenegger

Please click through to read the whole article.  We need help TODAY!
Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed cuts to reduce California's budget deficit include closure of over 200 of the state's parks.  This includes many of the state parks in the Santa Monica Mountains including Topanga, Will Rogers, Leo Carillo,  Malibu Creek, Malibu Lagoon, and Los Encinos to name just a few.  Unless we all take action now to save the parks, they may be closed as early as July 2009.
There are many things each of us can do to help keep the state parks open.  Here are some things we urge you to do NOW.  Please don't wait as the parks could be closed any day.

  • Join and use their easy tools to send an email to the Governor and legislators letting them know that you oppose these budget cuts.
  • Send a printed letter to the Governor.  A sample is attached below.
  • Visit a state park on the weekend of June 20th/21st.  The Trail Runners Club is holding a special event on the 21st to show support for the parks.
  • Spread the word about the park closures and encourage others to take action.  Especially, implore anyone who previously donated to Schwarzenegger's campaign to write the governor to protest the closures.

Please take action NOW!  We cannot afford to wait!
