Stan Swartz - a tribute

It's with sadness we have to announce that our club founder "Stan Swartz", director emeritus, passed away on Tuesday May 30th, 2017 at the age of 83.

Santa Cruz Island trip Spring 2016

It was the most perfect day for a boat ride and a run on the island, we had an amazing crew of runners, the ocean was deadly calm and the weather was just like we wanted it. The boat trip ended up to be a lot of fun. Soon we got close up with sea lions sunning on top of the buoy,  then a small pod of the Common Dolphin came along in the vessels waves. Best of all, we got to witness two Humpback whales breaching. A rather rare event this early in the season, very exciting to watch from close by this species feed on small fish; birds using the occasion to feast along. And how fun was it to get ashore the beach with skiffs instead of stepping on a dock! The run ended up being perfect too, just right for everyone's abilities as you could go farther or just keep it shorter, all we had to care for was to be back on time before the boat would bring us back to the main land. No problem, we all had a little extra time to enjoy a beach lunch on the pic-nic benches.<--break- /><--break- />

Solstice Canyon

What a great low key morning was had by all. We explored some new trails, toured the famous Robertson house and had Dunkin Donuts with coffee after, fresh flatbread with spreads and little oranges to make it a little healthy. It was fun to meet Axel his little boys and the rest of his family. I wish we had more members out bringing their loved ones. Next time, yes we'll do this again.

Griffith Park Run

What could be a better place to view the Hollywood Sign then from the trails at Griffith Park.

Annual 34th Thanksgiving Turkey Trot fun run

Mark you calendars "November 26" as we continue with our annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. A fun trail run open to everyone, free of charge to support the Santa Monica Mountains trail running community. Bring all your friends and family, non runners can join for an out & back hike by time. The trails are on State Parks property so no dogs allowed, sorry. We only ask that non-members sign a waiver before the start. The cost? Nothing, nada, zilch. Makes it pretty hard to come up with an excuse to not be there.

Baldy via Ski hut trail. Spring 2015

What a fun morning was had by Axel, Joe, Tin, Timmy, Brian, T.D., Skye and Ann. We all went up via the steep and technical Ski Hut trail. T.D. missed the start but found his way up via Baldy rd and we were united with him at the top of Mt. San Antonio, he got to do the Devils Backbone twice! Axel and Joe took off in the lead and were long gone home when we arrived back at the car. Great cool air at an altitude of 10,064ft, no chilling wind and some patches of snow. This little group of TRC dudes are a new experience richer today!

A wild 2015 wildflower season

This 2015 wild flower season has been beyond amazing so far. The Springs fire from May 2013 and the good amounts of rain we've had this winter have given the wildflowers the opportunity to flourish in the Western Santa Monica Mountains.

Today we had this run through Serrano Valley with fields full of purple lupines. Also patches of sunflower, poppies, paintbrush, indian warrior, etc...

Nordhoff ridge loop in Ojai

Dramatic cloud formations, hills in 50 shades of green, views to cry for, trails that make you feel a thousand dollars and after all that a wonderful lunch at this super quaint little Italian restaurant on the side of Hwy150. Nothing like some meatball sandwiches, lasagna, clamb showder and some fresh squized lemonade or orange juice to put runners in a good mood.
Ah, a good time was had by all ...

Spring Saturday special event runs announced.

For the Spring season we are adding two Saturday special runs, both runs are withing a reasonable driving distance and easily done in a day trip. The Sunday run the following day will stay on the schedule so you'll get a nice double run weekend if you'd like. These special Saturday runs are NOT marked and meant to be as a social run. Everyone gets a map and is encouraged to stay with at least one buddy.

New Years letter & info club membership 2015

Hello Trail runners;

a brand new 2015 is upon us, so it's time to write to you with some important news.

Overall, 2014 has been a great and cheerful year with lots of wonderful memories, but as all of you know, it ended with the sudden passing of our beloved friend and fierce club leader Ernie. We were in shock and disbelieve, how were we going to keep the club running without him?
Bob, Avalon, Art and me (Ann) created “team Ernie” and together we worked hard to keep the club runs organized, just like he did for so many years.
