Boney Mountain

This run takes place in Point Mugu State Park, but for this time we start on the northern edge of the park in the Conejo Valley at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa National Park in Newbury Park (just west of Thousand Oaks).

We park at the Wendy Drive trailhead (corner Wendy Drive with Portrero rd.) which is a gateway to some of the most scenic and spectacular trail runs in the Santa Monica Mountains on the extensive and diverse network of trails that can range from a few minutes, to many miles and hours. (So if you think that this loop is too much for you, tell us and we'll give you shorter options!)

This course has superb single track trails, fantastic views, grueling climbs, and fast downhills. This results in a challenging course with over 2600' of elevation gain/loss.
There are two significant climbs.
Once you are over halfway done, past the Danielson Ranch in Sycamore Canyon the second but biggest climb starts in Blue Canyon onto the Old Boney Trail in the Boney Mountain Wilderness.  REFILL YOUR WATER AT THE RANCH!!!! From here we go from the low point (295') to the high point (1820') in +/- 5 miles.

Come prepared with lots of water and some calories, hat, sunglasses and camera and you’ll have a wonderful Boney Mountain experience.

We understand that this run is a little scary and too much for some members, tell us and we'll give you a map with a shorter option, there are many ways to make this loop shorter but still very enjoyable and you'll still feel very accomplished. No worries, just tell us!
